I accept insurance through Alma (helloalma.com), a platform that makes working with insurance easier for both of us. Through Alma, I’m in-network with:

Out-of-Network Options

If I am not in-network with your insurance, you may still be able to use your out-of-network benefits. That means you pay for sessions up front and your insurance may reimburse you for part of the cost. If this applies to you, I can give you a superbill (a detailed receipt) to submit to your insurance. It’s a good idea to call them and ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for therapy?

  • What percentage of the session cost will be reimbursed?

  • Is there an out-of-network deductible?

  • How do I submit a superbill?

NO SURPRISES ACT

If you’re paying out of pocket and not using insurance, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate. This is a written notice that shows what you can expect to pay for your therapy.

I’ll provide this estimate before we start, or any time you request one. It’s part of a federal law called the No Surprises Act, designed to help you avoid unexpected bills. You can learn more at cms.gov/nosurprises.

Insurance Policy for Couples Therapy

While I am able to accept insurance for individual therapy sessions, I do not accept insurance or provide superbills for couples therapy sessions. This policy is based on the requirements of health insurance billing. Insurance companies require that one individual be designated as the identified patient and that a mental health diagnosis be provided for that person. In couples therapy, the focus is on the relationship dynamics between both partners, rather than on one individual’s mental health diagnosis.

Couples therapy is designed to address patterns of interaction, improve communication, and strengthen connection and intimacy within the relationship. This approach does not assign responsibility for challenges to one partner, but rather views the relationship as the client. Billing insurance for couples therapy would require that treatment goals focus on one individual’s diagnosis, which is inconsistent with the goals and methods of couples therapy.
